Common questions

What people ask before they start

What are the 5 basic survival skills?
Fire, Shelter, Signaling, Water, and First Aid — in order of urgency. Module 2 of this guide covers how to prioritize them based on what condition you're actually in.
What is the Rule of 3 in survival?
You can survive roughly 3 minutes without air, 3 hours without shelter in harsh conditions, 3 days without water, and 3 weeks without food. Always prioritize immediate threats before worrying about food.
What are the most important wilderness skills to learn first?
Navigation and temperature control. Most wilderness emergencies happen because someone got lost or suffered hypothermia. This guide covers both as the foundation before any other skill.
Is this really free?
Yes — completely. The Foundations guide and all 12 modules are free, forever. You'll also get access to THE CAMPFIRE community and notified when the app launches. No credit card required.
